Stopping the Spread of COVID-19: What You Can Do

COVID-19 is an airborne illness. It is spread when we breathe, talk, cough, or sneeze. Steps to avoid spreading COVID-19 include:

  • keeping at least 3 feet from other people
  • cleaning your hands
  • coughing or sneezing into your elbow
  • wearing a mask
  • opening windows to increase ventilation
  • staying up to date on vaccines
  • if you feel sick, stay home if possible, and wear a mask around others.

The best way to reduce your chances of getting COVID-19 is by staying up to date with vaccines. Other steps include washing your hands well and often, wearing a high- quality mask, opening windows, and keeping at least 3 feet from other people in crowded public places. Actions that reduce the chances of spreading COVID include staying home if you feel unwell and coughing or sneezing into your elbow or a tissue that you put right in the trash.
