People with COVID-19 may experience a wide range of mild to severe symptoms, including fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, sudden loss of taste or smell, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, nausea or vomiting, and diarrhea. Those with a mild case will usually recover in one to two weeks. For those with more severe illness, recovery can take six weeks or more. More severe cases have been linked to lasting symptoms that can cause damage to the heart, lung, brain, and kidneys. These persistent symptoms long after the mild recovery time are known as “long COVID.”
