COVID-19 Self-Care

Self-care for a person with COVID-19 includes getting plenty of rest and preventing dehydration by drinking plenty of fluids. Over-the-counter medications can help reduce symptoms such as fever, sore throat, and body aches. Contact your provider for more instructions.

People who have tested positive for COVID-19 should stay home if possible and wear a mask around others. If medical care is needed, they should call the clinic or provider before visiting.

When a person in your household is sick with COVID-19, choose one person to be the main caretaker. The caretaker should wear a mask and gloves when they are around the sick person.  The sick person should use a separate bathroom or bedroom if possible. If that’s not an option, try to stay at least 6 feet apart when sleeping and interacting. Consider opening windows to improve indoor airflow. Use soap and water or another household cleaner, followed by a disinfectant, to clean surfaces throughout the home each day. Wash laundry thoroughly and wash your hands after handling laundry.
